The Alabama Hills and the Lone Pine Peak are found in the Eastern Sierra Mountains region. This is a famous region with hikers, mountaineers, campers, skiers, climbers, and backpackers in general. The mountain image above with rolling clouds shows the magnificent scene that greets you shortly after sunrise. Surprisingly, the Eastern Sierra Mountains are found in the remote western side of the US between Nevada and California stretches from Tehachapi Pass in the south and Susan River in the north. The mountain range runs 110 km (70 miles) east to west and 640 km (approximately 400 miles) north to south with the most significant freshwater clear lake, Lake Tahoe lying square in the northern part of the Sierra.
Lone Pine Peak is found on the east of the Sierra Mountains, which is immediately west of Lone Pine, Inyo County, California. The eastern boundary separating Inyo National Forest and John Muir Wilderness is marked by its summit.
The Alabama Hills, on the other hand, is a range of rocky hills located on the east side slopes of the Sierra. They are in the west of Lone Pine town, Inyo County, California, in Owen Valley.
These hills or mountains are managed and protected by the BLM (Bureau of Land Management). They have been set aside as a recreational spot for residents and tourists. Unlike the sharp ridges found to the west of the Sierra Nevada, most of the Alabama Hills is covered by the rounded contours, which is a disparity likely caused by the different erosion patterns. The Alabama Hills shown in this mountain image is also a famous movie site with blockbusters such as Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Star Trek Generations, Russell Crowe’s Gladiator, and IronMan being filmed here.
The mountain image clearly shows the high contrast between the Alabama Hills and Lone Pine Peak.
Sierra Mountains Gold Rush
Fun Fact: The Sierra Mountains are historically famous for the California Gold Rush of 1848 to 1855, which was later rekindled in 1912 after it couldn’t be accessed during the earlier years. The Sierra region is also home to 2 national monuments, 20 wilderness areas, and 3 national parks. A great place to visit is Bodie, an old western ghost town.
