The Lighthouse in Martha’s Vineyard at Sunrise

There are few things more captivating than a mind-blowing scenery with an exquisite display of the sunrise as the backdrop. That is exactly the scenario painted by the image of the lighthouse in Martha’s Vineyard at dawn. Behind a sprawling blanket of flora, stands a majestic lighthouse silhouetted on the periphery of the splendid golden glory of the rising sun. There are glimpses of a stream that seems to cut across the landmass. The gloomy shadow cast on the horizon of what appears to be a sea is slowly fading under the first streaks of daylight. The coherence of the setting is rudely interrupted by unsightly escarpments to the left.

This picture was captured by Dan Kosmayer, an accomplished photographer. The lighthouse depicted is one of the five lighthouses erected on the northern side of Martha’s Vineyard overlooking Vineyard Sound and Nantucket Sound adjacent to the entrance to Edgartown Habor. Martha’s Vineyard is not a literal vineyard. It is an island in Massachusetts to the south of Cape Cod. Popularly known as The Vineyard, it is a prominent summer colony frequented by the wealthy. With an area of about 100 square miles and a population of 16, 535 people according to the last census report, Martha’s Vineyard ranks as the 58th largest island in the United States and the third-largest along the East Coast. The Chappaquiddick Island is a small extension to the left of the island into Nantucket Sound, a triangular area of the Atlantic Ocean, that is frequently separated from Martha’s Vineyard by storms or hurricanes through the connection is always naturally re-established. Since there is no direct link between Martha’s Vineyard and mainland Massachusetts in the form of a bridge or tunnel, the island is only accessible via air or water. The Vineyard was originally a home of the Wampanoag people.

Martha’s Vineyard, a Massachusetts island, sits in the Atlantic just south of Cape Cod.

I know it is a tourist attraction but you must put it on your list!
