Romanian Athenaeum architectural historical building

Romanian Athenaeum cultural building

Bucharest is the capital of Romania.  While taking a stroll through the center of Bucharest, the Romanian capital, there is one building that I had to stop and admire.  The Romanian Athenaeum (Ateneul Român) symbolizes Romania’s national culture and a remarkable architectural masterpiece historical building. French architect Albert Galleron designed the neoclassical circular structure in the late 1800s.    The building is dominated by a large dome and has a temple’s appearance, with numerous large columns similar to buildings a traveler would find in Athens, Greece.  Today the Romanian Athenaeum is a musical center concert hall that can seat almost 800. Its where classical music concerts play and are home to the local George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra.
