Homeless in New York City Streets
As you walk the streets in New York, photographing the people and places in the vibrant city, you are reminded of the many homeless people living on the streets. In New York, there are 70,000 children, women, and men living on the streets every night. Of those, it is estimated by the Bowery Mission that nearly 4,000 sleep on the streets.
This photograph I took over 10 years ago shows one of the men sleeping in the streets. Plastic bags are wrapped around his legs to give some shelter from the rain and cold. Yet what moved me the most was that he was reading the daily newspaper. It makes one feel that the individual has the intelligence and wherewithal to read and comprehend current events is still sleeping on the streets of New York.
I converted the image to black and white for additional artistic effect and have printed and sold this fine-art image many times over the last decade and a half.
