Discarded shoes attached to an old tree in Haliburton.
The tree can be found driving down Kennaway Road in Haliburton that leads to the incredible Haliburton Scout Reserve. The Haliburton Scout Reserve is Scouts Canada’s largest semi-wilderness camp. It is situated about 15 minutes drive from my Northern Ontario studio on a 5,000-acre property in the Canadian Shield’s heart.
The shoe covered tree is a whimsical and artistic tradition created by boy scouts many years ago. I like the entire emphasis on the detail of the shoes instead of the tree being included. It creates an artistic expression and makes the viewer continually explore the old and sometimes vintage objects in the fine-art photograph.
