At the heart of the Bogg district in Derry/Londonderry, Northern Ireland is where the tragic events took place on that Sunday 30th January, 1972.
Corner Neighbourhood in Londonderry
Since the peace accord dubbed Good Friday Agreement or Belfast Agreement, the British troops and baracades have been removed from this symbolic hotspot shown in this photo. Numberous large murals have been created memorolizing the fallen on that fateful day so long ago. The neighorhood is now quite, with neatly manicured hedges and lawns. But I talked to a gentleman that was repainting a Free Derry memorial sign, and he was only too eager to recap the events and point out the locations in that central district where military posts stood for half a century. The murals depict protestors with gas masks and loud blow horns.
