Rolling mountain range in the Cape Breton Highlands
Three weeks on a photo trip isn’t a lot of time when you want to cover a large area, but it should be enough to bring home a few good pictures. Exploring Prince Edward Island and photographing Cape Breton’s Cabot Trail, which is a fantastic experience. The rolling mountain range and grand tides and scenery of the area fascinated me.
As in any photography trip, one is always at the mercy of the weather. Generally, I don’t worry about the weather because it is beyond my control. It’s not the weather so much as the quality of the light one encounters that can determine whether or not one can bring back great photographs. The photograph here was taken during the day in bright sunlight. As I was traveling from location to location, I did not have the luxury of only shooting during sunrise or sunset. So I try and take photographs that make the viewer feel what it’s like to be at the location.
Here in the Cape Breton Highlands, the cliff and ocean are behind the tree line. As such, I captured the low cloud cover just behind the tree line giving the panoramic a unique quality of grandeur of the landscape.
