Canal grande in Venice with its famous gondolas

Gondolas moored by Saint Mark square with San Giorgio di Maggiore church in Venice, Italy

The Venetian gondolas traveling through the busy Grand Canal and smaller waterways of Venice are some of the most iconic images in the world. The gondolas in this photograph are artistic and a little different. The picture is taken very early on an overcast day, where I could capture the docks with all the gondolas tied up and empty. Today Venetian gondolas are used primarily as tour boats to explore the narrow canals of the Italian city of Venice.
