Small castle on Fota Island, County Cork at sunset
Fota Tower (Castle) is located on Fota Island in Cork Harbor. Although technically the building is not a castle, it is a folly, which is a building whose primary purpose is decoration. It was fashionable to have a folly or mock castle in your garden in the 1800s. John Smith-Barry commissioned local Cork Ireland architect Joh Hargrave to build the Tudor style castle on the edge of the Fota Demense overlooking the harbor.
The drone aerial photograph of Fota Castle here was shot at sunset, which gives the Fota Tower Castle a wonderful warm glow. The building was only about 25 meters in height, which puts the drone at about 30 meters. The circular tower of the castle features a crucifix on the outside wall.
