Hiking around the mountains in British Columbia, Canada, I came across what I thought was quite odd – Red Snow. When I got home, I did some research and discovered that the red snow (also called watermelon snow) in the Bugaboos Purcell Mountain is a common phenomenon. This pink snow is actually algae named Chlamydormonas nivalis. The Smithsonian has a good article on the red snow if you would like to know more interesting facts.
