The great gray owl is a massive bird of prey and a joy to watch and photograph. They feed on small field mice and rodents.  

Great Gray Owl has incredible hearing

The owl sits perched on a tree and cocks its head and listens for the rodents burrowing beneath the snow. The great gray owls incredible eye site hearing can detect a mouse or rodent over 300 feet away, even a foot under the snow, according to the Owl Research Institute.
